Listen in on a meeting with leading poskim about contemporary halachik issues found in hospitals.
Hospitals in Halacha - וחי בהם, was first published several years ago, as a result of our family's personal experience following a car accident. Our brother, רפאל ראובן בן רייזל ני suffered a severe brain injury. During our time spent at many hospitals and rehabilitation centers, we realized that due to the complex and unfamiliar environment of a health care facility, visitors often encounter halachic questions that they have not previously faced. Furthermore, those attending to a patient often do not have the time or the emotional energy to concentrate on the many different halachic issues that come up.
To assist people in these difficult circumstances we endeavored to produce a practical halachic guide with clear and concise guidelines in an easy question and answer format. And so, with much research and discussion with Rabbanim, Hospitals in Halacha was born. We donated the seforim to Bikur Cholims across America and B"H this work was enthusiastically received. It has proven to be an invaluable resource making it easier for visitors and caregivers to observe the halachos in Hospital settings.
R' Dovid Schachner speaking at the melave malka upon the publication of the original edition in 2017..
"We are in CHOP. This past Shabbos I read the sefer from the Bikur Cholim room. We asked so many shailos before Shabbos and still had so many more that came up on Shabbos. It was so helpful to have this sefer! Thanks!"
"My elderly father was rushed to the hospital & I came across your sefer in the bikur cholim room. Thank you for making this resource available!! I found it so easy to read and so many important questions answered."
"I have seen your Hospitals in Halacha guide book. It is really well done! Very impressive and extremely practical! Thank you!"
"Our son was rushed to the hospital shortly before shabbos and we had no clue what we are or are not allowed to do. Baruch Hashem we had Hospitals in Halacha and we were able to check up every question that we had. For ex, we weren't sure if we're allowed to move the IV pole. If not for HIH we would've spent the whole shabbos making ourselves crazy. HIH helped make our shabbos & hospital stay much more calm."
"I first came across your book in a bikur cholim house 5 years ago. We're getting ready for surgery next week, which will beyond doubt lead to many halachic questions. I just reread it. THANK YOU!!!!"
"I read Hospitals in Halacha each week at the shabbos table, reviewing a few halachos each meal. I find it fascinating even though I'm not in the hospital. I like that it covers so many diverse topics. "
